Second Generation Computer

Second generation computers were introduced in the years 1956-1963. One of the greatest differences was the use of transistors. Transistors replaced the use of vacuum tubes and allowed for smaller, faster, more accessible computers. Transistors also helped reduce the heat problem generated from vacuum tubes. Another distinguishing characteristic of the second generation computers was the use of stored memory.

The use of stored language and memory enabled this type of computer to be used in the business industry.
